About:

In early 2006 I was given my first RAD (rare adipose disorders) diagnosis: Dercum’s Disease, also known as Adiposis Dolorosa. I have innumerable benign fatty tumors that hurt like the dickens and bring with them a host of other inflammatory/autoimmune symptoms.

In addition (or due to, or in conjunction with, the research is still being done) I have lipolymphedema, another under-diagnosed RAD.

The journey to diagnosis and treatment was needlessly arduous and expensive, for us, but also for the insurance companies who ultimately paid for or denied my care.

I recently received a Flexitouch, a sequential gradient pump, and am receiving MLD/CDT, basically therapies to help move the fluid out of my body.

My hope is by documenting my treatment and progress, I can raise awareness about RADs, and smooth the journey for those yet to be diagnosed or treated.
